Workplace Violence Prevention Plan – Annual Obligations Reminder

Last year, California added Labor Code 6401.9 requiring most California employers with ten or more employees to establish, implement, and maintain an effective Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP) to ensure the safety of all employees and visitors in the workplace.
Annually (at a minimum), California employers are also required to:
- Review the Plan for its effectiveness and employee involvement in the plan.
- Update the Plan to identify any newly identified hazards and any other changes to the Plan including, the individual(s) responsible for the Plan, shelter in place protocols, evacuation protocols, and procedures for identifying and reporting hazards.
- Provide effective employee training on all aspects of the Plan.
As the one year anniversary of the new legislation approaches, it is likely that your review and training requirements are likely due now.
Cal/OSHA is actively enforcing all requirements, including the annual employer obligations under its standard inspection, citation, and penalty processes and procedures. Violations can result in hefty fines for your organization.
